Social Media has dipped its toes into the wireless waters. And it’s called New Media. According to Flurry’s (mobile analytics company) findings, the iPhone and Android users are using social networking apps twice more than the news apps and four times more than the games. This speaks volume about the popularity of the concept that mobile social networking is.

The ease of usage and the fact that the smartphones are coming packed with all the social networking apps, has indeed worked as a catalyst for social networking through mobile phones. This also points to another fact that is we like the concept of ‘connected always’ the reason why mobile social networking is catching up like never before.

It won’t be an exaggeration to state, that the next-gen Social Media has gone mobile. The market is flooded with me-too apps. The developers and businesses are eyeing this as a lucrative option. The open source environment contributes much to the popularity. It is evident that more excitement is in store in the app-centric world of mobiles.

The global trend right now is the combination of social, mobile and local (SoMoLo). As per the recent reports of Juniper Research, the number of mobile social media users will increase from 650 million in 2011 to 1.3 billion users in 2016. That is some number to relate with. An interesting statistics which has emerged is, that the mobile dating market is projected to worth $2.3 billion by 2016.
